The election of Barack Obama is a historic crossroads for the United States. For some there are starry predictions of radical positive change. For others, predictions of dire consequences soon to come. The truth is probably somewhere in between. For the Apostolic, the main thing is to remember that God puts up and takes down, and that, ultimately, all remains in His hands. Politics is a strange thing, and of such complexity that extreme caution is in order in hastily drawing conclusions
Regarding elections, personalities, agendas, and such like. The magnitude of conflicting forces constantly at work create a foment that even the victorious politician can often not control. From things that look good can come unexpected negatives. Likewise from things which appear foreboding can come results which are positive.
For example, it is now a matter of record that the candidacy of Mr. Obama resulted in an extremely large turnout of black voters. This played a role in his election. If you were opposed to the election of Mr. Obama, you may view this negatively. However, it was this same black vote (70%) along with the Hispanic vote (53%) which assisted Proposition 8 (Marriage is between a man and a woman) to pass in California. One might ask, what is more important, the election of the President, or preserving the foundation of American society? Further, while the Republican Party touts “Family Values”, John McCain admitted to unfaithfulness ending in divorce and remarriage, while Mr. Obama is the one with the nuclear family.
Did I vote for Mr. Obama? No.
Do I espouse most of his policy positions? No.
Would I vote for a black man? Yes.
Would I vote for a liberal? No.
However, with all of that said, who knows what God may do. He is full of surprises. Politicians are still just men, (and women) and God is able to touch them in ways that even they would never have expected. In the meantime:
“The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance, and of my cup. Thou are mine lot.
The lines have fallen unto me in pleasant place. I have a goodly heritage.
ps Did I hear Obama is going to an Apostolic church in Chicago?
